Pilates is precise work for the deep muscles of the trunk, guided by breath. At Anida Lab it takes three forms: on the Reformer, on the Tower and on the mat. All three last fifty minutes, and your teacher adapts every exercise to you.

Three ways to practise

The principles stay the same: control, breath, center. What changes is the resistance and the size of the class.

Fifty minutes, move by move

A class opens with breath and a first activation of the center. From there the sequence moves through the legs, the back and the shoulders, controlled rather than fast. Your teacher sets the springs or shows the lighter version of each exercise.

Afterwards the body feels longer and more upright. The work reaches the muscles that hold you through the day, with little load on the joints.

New to Pilates? On the mat you learn the principles without apparatus. On the Reformer the springs support you and five people share one teacher. Both suit a first class.

Who it is for

  • Beginners, and anyone coming back after a pause.
  • People who sit for most of the day and carry it in the lower back and the shoulders.

What Pilates is

Pilates is a method of controlled movement built on breath, precision and the deep muscles of the trunk. It strengthens the center that keeps the body upright and asks for attention rather than speed. It can be practised on the mat or on apparatus with springs.

Reformer, Tower or Mat

The Reformer is the most guided form: a sliding carriage, adjustable springs and five people per class. The Tower works with springs on a wall unit, with twelve places. Mat Pilates uses your own weight as resistance, with fourteen places in the Aura Room.

If you want close attention, start on the Reformer. If you want to learn the principles first, start on the mat. Many people end up combining them.

Pilates for beginners

No experience is needed in any of the three. Every exercise has a lighter version, and your teacher sets you up before the class starts. Tell your teacher about pregnancy, an injury or a sensitive back before you begin.

How to start

Book in the schedule on this page with your email address; there is no app to install. The first visit is simplest with the Guest Pass, valid for seven days: CHF 40 for a Mat class, CHF 48 for a Reformer or Tower class. After that, a pack of classes or a Movement membership from CHF 370 a month keeps the rhythm.
