Run. Press. Recover. A Saturday with SANE Club

On Saturday 24.10.2026 the doors at Gotthardstrasse 40 opened at 09:15. Thirty runners, drawn by lot from everyone who had entered, ran 8 km with SANE Club from Bern, came back to the Anida Café and spent the rest of the morning recovering in the lab. This is what we did, and why.

Run. Press. Recover. A Saturday with SANE Club

Why a run ends in a lab

A run is the easy part to organise. What happens in the hour after it decides how the legs feel on Monday: the muscles are warm, the nervous system is still up, and this is the window in which slow movement, breath and light do the most. Most runners spend that hour in a tram.

SANE makes running clothes in Bern and runs a club that goes out in pace groups, with hosts, open to anyone. We make the hour after. Putting the two in one morning was the whole idea: run, print, recover, no travel in between.

The morning, hour by hour

The programme was short on purpose. One run, one thing to see, one cool-down of your choice.

  • 09:15 · Arrival at the lab. A quick espresso for those who wanted one; most did not before running.
  • 09:30 · 8 km from the lab and back, in pace groups led by SANE Club hosts. Nobody ran alone, nobody waited at the end.
  • 10:15 · Back at the Anida Café: protein shakes, electrolyte drinks and snacks, laid out before the first group arrived.
  • 10:30 · SANE set up the heat press next to the bar and printed live.
  • 11:00 · Cool-down in the room each runner had chosen in advance: the Aura Room, the Reformer Room or the Red Light cabin.

Three ways to cool down

In the Aura Room, fifteen mats and a slow session built like our Move & Stretch classes: calves, hamstrings and hips first, then the thoracic spine, with a long exhale on every position. No stretching into pain, no holding the breath.

In the Reformer Room, five runners on the machines. The springs carry part of the weight, so the legs lengthen under control and the back stays supported. For tired legs it is gentler than the floor, and more precise.

In the cabin, ten runners in turns, each with a ten-minute session and the Recovery & Regeneration programme: ten minutes of red and near-infrared light. The current research is modest and so are we: less perceived soreness and a quicker return to feeling normal are the effects people report most. On Saturday, mostly, it was ten minutes of lying still after 8 km, which has a value of its own.

What we take from it

That recovery does not need an argument once people have run. Nobody asked why; they chose a room and went. That a café with shakes ready at the moment the group returns changes the mood of the whole hour. And that a lab with two rooms and a cabin can hold thirty people at once without feeling full.

The photos went out to everyone who ran. Everyone who entered and was not drawn heard from us too; the reserve list did its job on the day, and we are grateful to the people who stood on it.

After every run

What the lab did on Saturday, it does on any day of the week. Book a Move & Stretch or a Reformer class for the hour after your run, add a Red Light session before or after, and let the Anida Café take care of the shake. Classes and the café are open Monday to Friday 06:30 to 21:30, and Saturday and Sunday 09:00 to 15:00.

If you came on Saturday: thank you. If you missed it: the next date with SANE Club is not fixed yet, and the newsletter and Instagram will say it first.
